Points of Interest

Geographic Center of Tennessee
In 1834, it was determined that the exact center of Tennessee is located on Old Lascassas Pike, one mile from downtown Murfreesboro. Residents soon nicknamed the area "The Dimple of the Universe." The Rutherford County Historical Society marked the spot with an obelisk.

Oaklands Historic House Museum
A Stately plantation mansion that was alternately occupied by both Southern and Northern officers during the Civil War. Jefferson Davis stayed here while visiting troops in December, 1862.

Rutherford County Courthouse
One of six pre-Civil War buildings still operating in the state. Historic downtown Murfreesboro radiates with a unique character brought to life by an 1857 courthouse nestled in a 19th century setting. In 1946, a monument on the courthouse square was dedicated to General Griffith Rutherford, an officer in the Revolutionary War for whom the county was named in 1803. Once the state capital of Tennessee, Murfreesboro is also a blend of rich heritage and a vision of the future shown by modern office buildings, a new city hall, library and a downtown parking garage. Relive yesterday with a leisurely stroll downtown.

Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village
A reconstructed village of the 1800's. There is a blacksmith shop, general store, grist mill, chapel, museum and more. Cannonsburgh is the original name of Murfreesboro.

Stones River National Battlefield
This 350 acre national park is the site of a crucial Civil War battle. More than 80,000 soldiers were involved in the three day struggle. Living history demonstrations are featured in the summer months, with a special Civil War encampment in July.

Sam Davis Home
This 168 acre plantation is home of the "Hero of the Confederacy," 21-year-old Sam Davis, who chose to give his life for the Confederacy rather than divulge the name of a spy. Before he was hanged, Davis reportedly said, "If I had a thousand lives to live, I would give them all gladly rather than betray a friend."
